Guadalajara, Jal. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) manufacturers of plastics have the opportunity to enter the supply chains of automotive, electronic, pharmaceutical and other industries, to take advantage of the benefits of nearshoringaffirmed the director of Expo Plásticos, Jorge Arizmendi.
In the different states (of the country) there is a lot of investment; here in Jalisco from the electronics industry; in El Bajío, from the automotive sector; in the North, from the metal-mechanic and automotive industry. However, these new companies that are coming to settle in our country looking for a local supplier”, Arizmendi said.
He explained that the 2023 edition of Expo Plásticos -the most important international exhibition and business forum in the country- that will be held in Guadalajara, will allow SMEs in the sector “to be trained, to become professional, to acquire new equipment and technologies so that in the short term they can become Tier 1 or Tier 2 of the companies that come to settle in the country”.
The general director of the exhibition explained that within the framework of the fair there will be a meeting with more than a hundred business appointments, in which they will bring representatives of large corporations from 20 countries closer to the supplier companies.
“To make this business link between the large buyer and this new local, regional or national supplier, who within the expo also accesses new technologies to professionalize and achieve competitiveness that it needs to be a supplier to these large industries that come to settle in Mexico, regardless of the industry it is”, he specified.
According to Arizmendi, the plastics industry in Canada is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of molds, a sector that has mainly worked in Mexico with the Querétaro plastic cluster.
For his part, the president of the Regional Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Careintra), Javier Romo Zúñiga, indicated that In Jalisco there are 750 plastic manufacturing companies installed (92% MSMEs), which generate 35,700 formal jobs.
However, he said, in the entity there are other sectors such as the food industry and the maquiladora that demand a high amount of plastic products so that “plastics manufacturers have many possibilities of growth with nearshoring”.
Expo Plásticos 2023 will be held at Expo Guadalajara from March 28 to 30, and the organizing committee expects the participation of 300 exhibitors and 12,000 attendees. According to the Guadalajara Convention and Visitors Bureau, the event will leave the city with an economic benefit of 300 million pesos.
