CDMX, Mexico.- Mariana Castillo, mother of the political prisoner Gilberto Castillo Castillo denounced through social networks that his son is being medicated without authorization in the Eastern team.
The young man, arrested for demonstrating on July 11, suffers from intellectual disabilities, so any treatment he is subjected to must first be consulted with his family.
Through a direct one from Facebook, his mother said that when she went to visit him in prison, she found out that they were giving him a tranquilizer: amitriptyline. The boy complained to her and told her that the drug makes him very sleepy.
“My child has never left first grade, he is mentally retarded, and when I arrive at the prison they are giving him amitriptyline without asking me if the child can take it or not,” the woman said in a video that has been shared on social networks. .
Last November, Mariana told Cubanet how Gilberto and his family are living their time in prison. “My son goes to bed with his stomach stuck to his back from hunger, and he tells me that he can’t even sleep because there you have to keep one eye open and the other closed. The boy is so scared that he doesn’t leave his cell, not even to watch television. He prefers to stay in his bed to stay out of trouble. He lives with that agony, and I live.
Gilberto Castillo, due to his disability, does not feel comfortable interacting with other people, he occasionally repeats meaningless phrases and is unable to read or even write his name. If he must sign something, he smears his finger with ink and stamps it on the paper. This is how he did with all the documentation during the criminal proceedings against him, although he was not clear about what he was saying.
At the trial, the lawyer his parents hired to borrow the money presented many papers to prove that the boy has an intellectual disability: the discharge from the Military Service, the medical history, the file from the Special School; but nothing saved him. For the Cuban courts, Gilberto was guilty of something atrocious: having thrown three small stones at a window in Güira de Melena. And not just any glass, but the one from a store in MLC. For this he was sentenced to six years in prison.
