They march again in Culiacán to demand peace

With signs that read “Not with the children” and “Culiacán united for Peace” and images of missing people in Culiacán, Sinaloa, entire families closed Obregón Avenue from the Cathedral to La Lomita.

During the progress of the demonstration, a group of musicians were playing, who were left without work due to the increase in insecurity in Culiacán after the arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada last July. These people reported the shortage of work since September of last year.

Upon arriving at the Municipal Palace, a group of protesters tried to burn the building, but other people asked not to demand peace with more violence, although they burned a pineapple with the image of the state president.

This is the second march, the first was three days ago. In this demonstration, the protesters entered the Government Palace of Sinaloa, where they broke the windows of the main door and painted the walls with phrases such as “Out with Rocha.”

In Culiacán, violence increased after the arrest of drug trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada on July 25 in the United States, after an alleged betrayal by Joaquín Guzmán López, son of kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

The Culichis call this war the “narcopandemic”, since, like the covid pandemic, it has caused the closure of businesses and isolation in homes.
