LIMA, Peru – Martiño Ramos, the Galician teacher sentenced to 13 years in prison for multiple abuses against a girl, has been located in Cuba, according to the newspaper reported this Sunday The Spanish.
The 46-year-old teacher had escaped from Spanish justice and had been missing for months. According to the report, the fugitive has lived at least since last July in Havana, where he uses the name “Martín Soto” and works as a photographer.
When he disappeared, the pedophile was on parole because the authorities of his native Ourense, in Galicia, opted for it until the sentence against him was final.
The crimes that led to his arrest date back to when he taught music and established contact with the victim through social networks. At that point, Martiño Ramos had already known the minor for years, whose teacher he was during her childhood education.
Without revealing his identity, for some time he asked the girl to share nude and masturbation photos with him. One day, when the little girl demanded to meet him in person, she was surprised to find her own teacher in the music classroom.
From then on, it transpired in the judicial process, the encounters were repeated and Ramos’ attacks on the minor escalated, until he abandoned her in a mountain after a beating. The abuse extended between the victim’s ages of 12 and 16.
The pedophile was sentenced in July 2024 to 13 years in prison for continued rape and abuse. As accessory sanctions, he was disqualified from teaching for 21 years, a restraining order against the victim for two decades and compensation of 30,000 euros was applied to him.
“In the Cuban capital he moves without attracting attention. He participates in small photography workshops, appears in group exhibitions and frequents cafes in the El Vedado neighborhood,” El Español denounces.
Ramos has shaved and looks refreshed, the publication acknowledges. He moves through the streets of the Island with impunity, while Cubans ignore the past of a pedophile who abused a minor at least 10 times in Spain.
