Two European tourists in their 50s, located the personnel of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) after an intense task of coordination and search.
Tourists remained disoriented on the Camino Real de Cruces trail, María Chiquita sector, Portobelo district, Colón province.
Sinaproc Search and Rescue personnel from the Colón region managed to find these two hikers of French and Swiss nationality, who were given proper assistance since they showed obvious signs of dehydration and fatigue.
As reported by the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), the tourists maintained communication via cell phones with the personnel at the Colón base, guaranteeing a safe route to exit the Camino Real de Cruces trail.
Sinaproc recommends that all hikers ask for permission, register and notify the MiAmbiente park rangers who guard the National Parks or Forest Reserves before embarking on this type of adventure, in case an emergency situation arises.
Whenever you go hiking, be accompanied by a certified guide and try to bring basic first aid equipment. It is advised to have the numbers of emergency agencies at hand and use maps or GPS to trace a safe route, and if possible, give a copy to relatives and authorities.
Similarly, it is important to be informed about the weather conditions to carry out this type of recreational activities. Do not demand more from your body than your physical conditions allow, they could take their toll on your journey, putting your personal integrity and safety at risk.
