The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard (GN) announced yesterday the death of Saúl Alejandro N, alias El Chopa, lieutenant of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel (CJNG) and identified as responsible for the murder of the former governor of Jalisco Aristóteles Sandoval Díaz on December 18, 2020 in Puerto Vallarta.
The agencies reported that El Chopa died after a confrontation recorded on Friday with federal agents who detained him alive in Puerto Vallarta, according to a statement released this Saturday.
Elements of the GN were carrying out preventive intelligence work in Puerto Vallarta, when they were attacked with firearms fired from a private vehicle.
“When repelling the aggression, the National Guard personnel observed that an individual got out of the aggressor’s vehicle, who had a firearm projectile wound, which is why first aid was provided and he was transferred to a health facility in Puerto Vallarta, later being identified as Saúl Alejandro N(a) Chopa, according to the statement.
El Chopa was apprehended and the competent authorities were seen to make him available, but he died while medical personnel provided him with the corresponding care, according to the Sedena and the National Guard.

Meanwhile, another person was arrested and a helicopter belonging to the Mexican Air Force was arranged to transfer him to the delegation of the Attorney General’s Office in Guadalajara, for the legal purposes.
According to the statement, Saúl Alejandro N coordinated the finances of the CJNG, as well as the supply of weapons and tactical equipment to criminal cells with a presence in the states of Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí of the criminal organization.
