The mayor of Maracaibo, Rafael Ramírez Colina, was arrested on October 1 by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service along with his security director and other workers.
A custodial measure was issued against the mayor of Maracaibo (Zulia state), Rafael Ramírez Colina, as reported this Saturday, October 5, from his personal Instagram account.
According to the publication, a hearing was held at the SEBIN headquarters in Maracaibo, where he was sentenced to deprivation of liberty along with other detainees.
The published text denounces that Ramírez Colina was denied the right to defense, which violates the law of due process and the legitimate right to defense established in the Constitution and laws.
“This once again shows that this is an act of political persecution. Nobody has been able to see it. We do not know what condition it is in,” the text states.

The mayor was arrested on October 1 by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service along with his security director and other workers.
Ramírez Colina was detained at the mayor’s offices in Villa Carmen, Bellavista Avenue, along with the general director of the Mayor’s Office, Betty Ramos, the general director of Citizen Security, David Barroso, and two bodyguards.
On September 26, the mayor’s chief of staff was arrested, Pedro Guanipawhen he was preparing to stamp his passport to travel to Bogotá, Colombia, for family commitments.
Guanipa, brother of the leaders Tomás and Juan Pablo Guanipa, is part of the Primero Justicia party, to which Rafael Ramírez Colina also belongs. «We ask for freedom for Pedro Guanipa, detained without committing any crime at the time of going to stamp his passport to leave the country, as established by current legal regulations. We hope for his prompt release,” said the official.
