The National Meteorological Service (SMN) today issued a yellow alert for 13 provinces of the country due to the risk of strong winds and prolonged storms. Precipitation and intense gusts of wind are expected in the next few hours.
According to the climatologist report of the SMN, the provinces that are under yellow alert due to extreme wind Buenos Aires, Catamarca, Chaco, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Formosa, La Rioja, Salta, San Luis, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero and Tucumán. While another six are in alert by electrical storm:
- Catamarca.
- Formosa.
- Jujuy.
- Missions.
- The Rioja.
- Jump.
for the next few hours, wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are forecastonly, in the jurisdictions that are in yellow alert. While in the provinces that are under alert storm, accumulated rainfall of up to 100 millimeters is expected.
NMS Recommendations
Given the imminent arrival of an extreme wind front in the country, the meteorology service urged the population to “avoid outdoor activities” in the next two daysas well as “make sure to properly secure those objects that are at risk of falling off or flying out of windows and balconies.”
On the other hand, it is recommended that the citizens of the areas in yellow alert and storm “reduce going outside to avoid accidents” and “travel with extreme caution through streets and sidewalks.”
