So far in January, eight babies have died in the “Diez de Octubre” gynecological and obstetric hospital in Havana, according to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).
Four of these children lost their lives “as of last day 11 with presumptive signs of sepsis [afección médica grave, causada por una respuesta inmunitaria fulminante a una infección] and the others for other reasons related to their delicate state of health,” according to a informative note of the MINSAP.
The babies had been premature and had low birth weight.
The health authorities reported that the hospital “measures have been adopted to deal with this situation and it has the necessary resources to care for newborns.”
