“The Public Ministry has initiated an ex officio investigation by the illegal modification of the national anthem,” a high -level source of the persecuting body told El Nacional.
The MP initiated the ex officio investigation after the public dissemination of a modified version of the national anthem, in a violation of the norms that protect the Dominican national symbols.
The action was motivated after knowing the unauthorized alteration of the original letter of the national anthem, which constitutes a possible outrage to this sacred symbol of national identity.
Regulations
In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 210-19 on the use of national symbols, specifically its article 12, “it is strictly forbidden to alter the letter or music of the national anthem or interpret it with unauthorized arrangements that distort their solemnity and meaning.”
Likewise, the Dominican Criminal Code, in its article 204, punishes with penalties of up to one year in prison and fine to those who commit acts of outrage or disrespect to the national symbols, including the flag, the shield and the national anthem.
The Public Ministry emphasized that these types of actions undermine the respect for national sovereignty and the values that represent the national symbols, so it will act firmly to establish responsibilities, in accordance with the law.
“The national anthem is not an artistic piece of free interpretation, but an emblem of national unity and respect. All undue alteration will be investigated and, if necessary, sanctioned in the courts,” said a source of the accusing body.
The investigation is in preliminary phase, and it is expected that the versions and responsibilities of those involved in the recording, dissemination or promotion of the adulterated version be requested.
