In Portuguesa state, they ordered the opening of an investigation against 6 doctors who allegedly violated the emergency room of the Jesús María Casal Ramos hospital, in Acarigua-Araure, currently in the remodeling and equipping phase.
The doctors are interns and residents in the hospital and are accused of having broken into the emergency area, “damaging public property, theft and immoral acts,” according to the police report.
The Portuguesa Police report indicates that the incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday the 18th and was verified during an inspection of one of the main hospitals in the region, whose infrastructure is the subject of a recovery and maintenance plan.
The doctors were arrested and processed by the Portuguesa Police and the Public Ministry at the end of the afternoon of this Wednesday, being released hours later.
Those involved were identified as Diana Carolina Ramos Rodríguez, Yuliber Figueredo, Albanis Yunetzi Colmenárez Anular, Darío Enrique Monasterios Villegas, José Armando Sarmiento Rodríguez and José Vicente Sandoval Perdomo.
A group of resident doctors who work on the campus spoke out this Thursday against the police authorities’ treatment of their colleagues, considering that accusing them of “damaging public property” is an act of “defamation” and “abuse of authority.”
Concentrated in the external area of the hospital and at a press conference, they alleged that due to the remodeling of the emergency, the workers do not have adequate spaces to clean themselves or satisfy their physiological needs, so the doctors entered the area to use the bathroom, “There was no theft or pieces were stolen,” said Hermicar Zacarce, resident doctor and spokesperson for the union.
The works in the hospital
In the Acarigua-Araure hospital, the pediatric and adult emergency areas are being rehabilitated, where the works include the reconstruction of the area, the waterproofing of roofs, the reinstallation of the electrical system, the construction of new bathrooms and a wait, among other works.
The Regional Health Directorate reported this week that the work in the hospital is more than 95% complete and the crews are working “without respite or rest” to complete the work as soon as possible.
Work on the emergency at Casal Ramos, the main hospital in the northern area of Portuguesa, began last February and is being carried out by the Mayor’s Office of Araure and the regional government.
other centers
After the recovery of this hospital began, other assistance centers in Portuguesa began to be intervened with a recovery and maintenance plan announced just a few weeks ago by Governor Primitivo Cedeño.
Thus, the Oswaldo Barrios type I hospital and the Padre Esteller Comprehensive Diagnostic Center (CDI), both located in Píritu, were added to the list of health infrastructures that receive “a little love” in Portuguesa; the type I Biscucuy hospital and more recently the Miguel Oraá hospital, in Guanare.
Different levels of government and even volunteers of popular power, carry out the work “so that Portuguese men and women can have decent establishments and quality services,” says the Regional Health Directorate in a press release.
In these health establishments, waterproofing, painting, welding, sealing of floors, adaptations of the electrical system, repair of air conditioners and of the drinking water supply network, installation of faucets, installation of bathrooms, installation of LED lights in internal and external areas, among other improvements, detailed Yelirza Ortiz, sole health authority in Portuguesa.
operating room care
The improvement of the centers that make up the third level of health care in Portuguesa includes operating room care.
This is the case of the Miguel Oráa hospital, in Guanare, where in the middle of last week the health office announced the start of waterproofing in the more than 800 square meters that protect the surgical area.
In addition to the removal and replacement of the asphalt blanket, the project includes the recovery and maintenance of the sewage pipes and the air conditioning of the 4 operating rooms that make up the surgical area on the fifth floor.
In the Miguel Oráa hospital, the maintenance of the electrical substation that feeds the entire health center and is located in the basement was also carried out. The work was carried out on Sunday the 15th.
