On an embankment in the town of Unión Zapata, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, this Saturday a truck was intercepted carrying 14 migrants, including three from Cuba, eight from Nicaragua and three from Ecuador.

This weekend, the National Institute of Migration (INM) extended “review operations to public and private transport” on federal highways to stop the flow of irregular foreigners who are entering through the southern border of Chiapas.

The “driver of the van and the vehicle remained at the disposal of the Public Ministry,” according to reported the INM on Facebookwhile the migrants were taken to a migration control center to define their situation.

Migrants from the Island also continue to move by sea. In Florida, the Coast Guard reported the repatriation of 44 Cubans, who were intercepted in two separate events. A group of four Cubans was intercepted and returned to the island on the ship Robert Jered on January 28.

The same Coast Guard released earlier, the arrest of two smugglers and the repatriation of 40 Cubans, who were arrested in two different actions. The operations took place on Tuesday, January 25, 10 miles south of Long Key and last Sunday about 13 miles southeast of Marathon, in the Florida Keys.

“People who enter the United States illegally using smugglers put their lives in the hands of criminals,” said Lt. Cmdr. Mark Cobb, Coast Guard District Seven enforcement officer.

Since October 1, 2021, Coast Guard crews intercepted 690 Cubans, according to data from US authorities. The 40 detainees were repatriated to the island by the coast guard william trump last Thursday.
