Residents of the Montelimar neighborhood, in the district of La Chorrera, denounced the unanswered increase in the cleaning fee by more than 100% of the usual payment.
One of those affected explained that the new rate is 10 dollars when they usually pay 4 dollars and 80 cents and that when consulting with the customer service person who made the payment, he was informed that the new rate was agreed upon through citizen consultation and that would be applied according to the area and value of the properties.
But the residents say that a citizen consultation was never called and that this increase fell on them like a bucket of cold water.
On the other hand, Fernando Amarís, Municipal Comptroller of La Chorrera, assured that this consultation did take place, and that the call was made through different media. He said that the citizen consultation was held on November 1, 2021 at the Anclas Mall at 10:00 am, but that there was no community participation.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for the community of Montelimar, Raúl Ossa, said that this increase is totally illegal and that the mayor’s office of La Chorrera was the one who authorized the Metropolitan Cleaning Company to give this increase, of more than 100% of the cleaning fee, and that this was approved in agreement number 41 of October 20, 2010, an agreement with 11 years of validity that had not been applied until now.
The residents of Montelimar intend to demand this increase in the cleaning fee since there are precedents of similar situations in which the Supreme Court of Justice has ruled in favor of the Chorrerana community. This happened in 2017 when the Third Chamber annulled the increase in this rate, which at that time was set at 10 dollars and 60 cents.
