At the request of the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of this jurisdiction, imposed 12 months of preventive detention, as a measure of coercion, against the man accused of the murder of broadcaster Romel Roque Guillén Cabrera, which occurred on the 25th. December 2024, in the middle of a discussion over a vehicular incident in the Villa González municipality.
Having gathered the necessary material, documentary and expert evidence, the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office provided these elements to the court, and presented provisional charges against Evaristo Luciano Álvarez Ventura, for committing the murder of Guillén Cabrera in violation of articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code. .
The investigation by prosecutor Miguelín Rivas, of the Department of Physical Violence (Homicide), revealed that Guillén, who was driving his vehicle, a blue Suzuki car, on José Manuel Peña Hijo street, in the Villa González municipality, in company of his son, collided head-on with the gray Honda CRV vehicle driven by the accused.
The collision led those involved to argue, but the scene turned violent when the perpetrator, enraged, lunged at the victim, disabling him and sending him beaten to the ground, where he suffered another fatal trauma.
Supported by this evidence, the trial prosecutor, Heidys de León, explained before the court, chaired by Judge Estephanie Santiago Reyes, the need for preventive detention to be imposed, before any other of the measures proposed by the Criminal Procedure Code, to so that the body it represents can expand the investigations into the facts and gather all the evidentiary evidence required for a potential trial against the accused.
The court ordered the mandatory review of this measure for next Wednesday, April 2.
