The night of September 27 turned tragic in the Las Mariposas tunnel, located on the highway that connects Cajamarca (Tolima) and Calarcá (Quindío). In an unfortunate accident, three members of the Mirque Toro family lost their lives while traveling in their family vehicle.
The victims were identified as María Isabel, 50 years old; Luis Alfonso, 73; and Diego, 69, all from Santa Rosa de Cabal, Risaralda.

Accident details delivered from the accident
According to the Quindío Highway Police report, the accident occurred when a white Kia vehicle collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer at kilometer 9, right in one of the short tunnels of this stretch of road. This shocking crash resulted in the death of the two occupants of the family vehicle at the scene, while the other died while receiving medical attention.

Two other people traveling in the Kia were injured and taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Causes of the accident
According to the preliminary report from the authorities, a possible failure in the vehicle’s brake system could have been the cause of the accident. However, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.
