Fugitive from Spanish justice

According to the Spanish press, Ramos Soto, currently 50 years old, was free throughout the judicial process, since no precautionary measures were ordered.

All of this despite the seriousness of the facts with which he was accused and the two previous rulings—from the Provincial Court of Ourense and the Superior Court of Xustiza in Galicia—which indicated him as author of “sadistic and repeated” violations against the minor.

The Galician professor abused his victim for four years, since she was 12 years old. At 16, the minor finally reported him, which led to an investigation and a trial against him that culminated in his conviction confirmed by the Supreme Court.

When the Spanish Police tried to locate him to take him to prison after the final court ruling, Ramos Soto had already disappeared.

According to The Country, Spanish authorities analyzed clues about his presence in Havana. While, Europa Press point that the Provincial Court of Ourense issued a request for extradition from Cuba since last October 31, when it already had news that he had been located on the island.

However, the fugitive may no longer be in that city or even in the country.

Internet users and unofficial media indicate that the professor had stopped answering his Cuban phone and had left the house where he lived in recent days, apparently after discovering that he had been identified. This feeds the uncertainty about his current whereabouts.

So far, the Cuban authorities have not commented publicly on the reports in the Spanish press, the alleged presence of the fugitive on the island and the extradition order against him.

For the rest, as you recognize The Spanish, There is no active extradition treaty between Spain and Cubawhich makes his return legally difficult. However, the Iberian authorities assure that “they continue working to ensure that this person definitely comply his sentence” in that country.
