The national director of the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (Felcn), José Illanes, reported this Monday that four people who participated in the violent attack were identifiedn against five soldiers from the Mobile Rural Patrol Unit (Umopar), on Friday night, in the Cochabamba municipality of Shinahota.
According to Illanes, those investigated are: Wilma Caballero Tacachiri, Edmundo Sánchez Rodríguez, Martha Fiesta Aro and Policarpio Pérez Mamani, against whom the arrest warrants are being processed, in coordination with the Cochabamba Prosecutor’s Office, in order to proceed with their capture.
The Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc), has already opened an investigation against these four people for the crimes of heserious injuries, very serious injuries and aggravated robberybecause after attacking them they seized seven firearms from the Umopar troops.
The police officers who were victims of the violent act are: Second Lieutenant Boris Rodríguez Condori and Sergeants Pascual Cosme Cosme, Richard Caso Concha, Ever Quispe Huanca and Saúl Mamani Caricampo, who are hospitalized at the Incor clinic in Santa Cruzto where they were airlifted on Saturday morning.
Illanes said that one of the officers is in intensive carewith a guarded medical prognosis, since suffered blows to the head. While the other four affected could be discharged in the next few hours, depending on their improvements.
According to the Umopar report, the five soldiers entered the municipality of Shinahota, in the Cochabamba province of Tiraque, at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, to capture two women who had been intercepted with 70 kilos of cocaine (distributed in 70 brick-type packages).
However, upon becoming aware of the operation, the enraged villagers launched firecrackers and immediately gathered to brutally beat the anti-narcotics officers until they were seriously injured.
Thus, the two women who were arrested were released and the drug disappeared. In addition, according to the police report, the angry mob he stole cell phones, wallets and seven firearms (including an M16 rifle and a 9mm revolver) to the victims.
