With the collaboration of the Embassies of Colombia, Ecuador and Cuba, the authorities of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, together with the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMELCF) have managed to scientifically identify 21 of the deceased victims and survivors. , of the traffic accident, which occurred on February 15, 2023, in Los Planes, district of Gualaca, province of Chiriquí.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated that through judicial assistance, the protocols for the remission of the fingerprint record were complied with, and with this, the forensic dactyloscopy tests were developed, which allowed obtaining the identity of these people.
They highlighted that in this first phase they identified 14 deceased people, whose remains are in the judicial morgue in the province of Chiriquí.
It also identifies seven people who are under medical inspection at the Dr. Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital and the José Domingo de Obaldía Maternal and Child Hospital.
They stated that to identify the bodies that remain to be recognized, they will carry out other scientific analyzes, such as forensic odontology and DNA tests, through the Chiriquí Regional Prosecutor’s Office and in conjunction with the IMELCF.
