The case generated deep commotion, especially due to the way in which Jean Claude Bossard was attacked during an attempted robbery that ended tragically. The young man, originally from Barranquilla, was in Bogotá when he was approached by the criminals, who took his life in the middle of the assault.
According to the authorities, patrolman Vergara reacted in a timely manner by identifying those responsible and, given the threat they represented, he used his service weapon to neutralize them. Their intervention made it possible to stop the escape of the criminals and prevent new violent events from occurring in the area.
For this fact, a minor was captured.

During the award ceremony, the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, strongly supported the actions of the uniformed personnel and the legitimate use of force by the Police. “When the Police have to use weapons, they must do so. And we support them in this,” said the district president.
Galán highlighted that the patrolman demonstrated “courage and determination” when confronting those responsible for the crime, emphasizing that his actions occurred within the framework of the law and in defense of citizens. “In Bogotá we support those who take care of us,” said the mayor, while sending a message of support to the public force.
The award also reopened the debate on citizen security and institutional support for those in uniform who face high-risk situations. While the family of Jean Claude Bossard cries out for justice, the authorities reiterate their commitment to combat crime and protect the lives of citizens.
