The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and leaders of the United States with Dominican descent highlighted the holding of the First Summit of Elected Leaders in the United States of America, whose initiative managed to bring together more than 80 percent of them.
The president was pleased that the event is taking place in Dominican territory, arguing that it is necessary for the political community abroad to continue to strengthen itself, as a way for the country to continue its progress.
In this sense, the president asked the mayor of Lawrence, Brian Depeña, that the Summit be officiated every year, because he understands that this constitutes one of the main reasons for strengthening the unity of Dominicans abroad.
“It is something that fills us with pride, and it will also help our community abroad to unify more around the development of the nation, so, Brian, I congratulate you on such an important initiative, and I hope you will take us at our word and that this activity is carried out every year, in our country”, said Abinader.
On his side, the senator of the State of Rhode Island, Ana Quezada, and the mayor of the city of Passaic New Jersey, Héctor Lora, as well as the director of the Institute of Dominicans Abroad, (Index), in the city from Boston, Óscar Guerrero, greeted the event.
They said that the initiative should serve as an example so that those elected in other nations of Dominican origin also unify and join the contribution of ideas for the development of the Dominican Republic.
Similarly, Brian A Depeña, mayor of the city of Lawrence, in his speech highlighted the strong ties that unite both nations and called for strengthening them, to ensure a greater work agenda for mutual benefit.
The mayor mentioned the great role played by Dominicans who have been elected to a position in the United States, especially in Lawrence, where the majority of elected authorities have their origin in the Dominican Republic.
“It is the first time in history that the Dominican community with elective positions in US territory has been able to meet on Dominican soil,” said Brian De Peña.
