They highlight the role of exports in growth and the sustained development of the DR

SANTO DOMINGO.- In order to make visible the impact generated by the Dominican export system as a generator of foreign exchange and in promoting the country’s development and competitiveness, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) held the event “Exports: Indispensable Engine for sustained growth.

This discussion space organized by the ANJE Economy and Energy Commission, led by specialists from the public, private and union sectors, featured a keynote presentation by Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of ProDominicana, who addressed the impact of exports and the role that the different subsectors have played in the consolidation of the Dominican Republic as one of the main exporters in the region.

The agenda of the meeting also included the panel “Perspective of the sector: present and future”, in which representatives of the free zone, mining and export sectors addressed their vision and expectations regarding the contributions that their respective subsectors are making to continue contributing to the Dominican economy. Finally, the closure was carried out by BANDEX, a financial brokerage entity dedicated to promoting strategic productive sectors.

The panel included the participation of Elizabeth Mena, president of ADOEXPO; José Manuel Torres, Executive Vice President of ADOZONA; and, Susana Gautreau, executive vice president of the Oil Mining Chamber; moderated by Brenda Villanueva, director of the International Department of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.

“This meeting is a sign that all sectors, both public and private, and especially young entrepreneurs, who have an impact on exports, are working together hand in hand to positively impact the development and consolidation of the Dominican Republic as a main exporter in the region”, highlighted the president of ANJE, Luis Manuel Pellerano.

On the other hand, during her speech, Biviana Riveiro indicated that “In a small economy like ours, with a limited market and purchasing power, private investment and the promotion of exports are key elements to promote economic development and the generation of jobs. We must align our productive capacities towards the demand of foreign markets and increase our participation in international trade”.

In addition, he said that we must highlight that the data for the first half of 2022 indicate that total exports were US$6,305.2 MM with a growth of 10.7%, “which means that we are on the way to another historical record for exports.”

Likewise, during the panel, the speakers highlighted key points in the growth and development of exports in the country, such as the resilience of the sector in the face of the COVID crisis, the challenge of having trained human capital and the advantages of relocation. of proximity or nearshoring, as part of the commercial strategy.

The closing of the event was led by Juan Mustafá, general manager of the Bank for Development and Exports (BANDEX), who shared the new vision of this entity and the financing facilities they offer to the sector.
