1 in 6 couples have problems conceiving naturally and one of the factors is that more and more young people postpone their motherhood, so taking care of fertility is one of the biggest challenges of modern life. This context leads doctors and specialists in assisted reproduction to establish the first steps towards a Law of assisted reproduction at the local level.
In this sense, More than 50 speakers from 12 countries will meet for 3 days in our country to appreciate human reproduction in a holistic way and analyze the problem of infertility from different angles. at the Congress of the Southern Cone Region of the Latin American Network for Assisted Reproduction (LARA Network) to be held in Asunción from November 23 to 25 at the Paseo La Galería Events Center.
¨Epidemiology of infertility: Towards a law of assisted reproduction¨
This will be one of the issues that doctors will discuss on November 23 on the first day of the congress, which will include the participation of national authorities, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPBS) and the President of the Republic, the Mr. Mario Abdo Benitez.
In Paraguay, infertility and assisted reproduction continue to be little visible and underestimated by professionals, public opinion and organizations related to the subject, despite the fact that the magnitude of the problem is similar to that calculated globally, affecting the 10-15% of couples of reproductive age.
For this reason, this scientific event will address not only the burning clinical and laboratory issues of assisted reproduction, but also the universal, Latin American, and regional epidemiology of infertility, the right to form a family as a human right, the assisted reproduction for homosexual couples and as a way of family planning, the feasibility and efficacy of low-cost IVF, automation versus personalization, and infertility from the patient’s perspective
“For three days we will gradually immerse ourselves in the world of human reproduction, starting with topics of interest to the general gynecologist, and culminating with the outstanding topics of assisted reproduction,” said Dr. Roger Molinas, president of the Congress of the Red LARA Conosur 2022.

Other issues to be discussed are the management of the infertile couple, clinical and laboratory issues in assisted reproduction such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, recurrent miscarriage, implantation failure, new ovarian stimulation and endometrial preparation schemes, fertility preservation, genetics. , selection of gametes and embryos, quality control, among others.
Molinas believes that as specialists their objective is not only to help women with the desired pregnancy, but also to ensure that all this gestation time occurs with the best guarantees of health and well-being, both for the mother, the couple and the baby.
“We intend that this is not just another congress, but an opportunity to visualize infertility as a social and health problem, encouraging professionals focused on women’s health to have an approach to the fascinating world of assisted reproduction”, emphasized the doctor .

On November 24 at 7:30 p.m. a special session will be held, open to the public, where we will have Luciana Mantero, Argentine journalist and author of the book “The World’s Greatest Desire” as a special guest. Luciana will talk about what it entails the difficult road to motherhood after having experienced infertility. The renowned communicator is dedicated to recounting testimonials from several women who went through the same thing in search of that great dream.
This talk is aimed at people interested in learning more about the search path for a child, it is open and free.
