The director of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett), Francisco Osoria de la Cruz, reaffirmed his commitment to road safety to continue contributing to reducing traffic deaths and injuries in the Dominican Republic.
In a visit to the newspaper El Nacional, Osoria de la Cruz highlighted that he ordered “sealing” of units on the Duarte Highway from kilometer 9 to Navarrete, in Santiago to prevent collisions, especially on weekends when vehicular mobility increases.
He assured that he works tirelessly to promote a culture of respect for Law 63-17, on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries.
He highlighted that 70 percent of vehicle crashes correspond to motorists who move without any type of protection, causing a trail of avoidable deaths in the country.
He said that has been the reason why his management has implemented the program a “Helmet to Save Your Life”whose objective is to continue raising awareness among motorcyclists about the importance of using protective helmets.
He urged drivers, especially motorcyclists, to protect their lives by using protest when traveling on the roads, highlighting the importance of this habit in reducing fatal accidents.
He assured that he has delivered more than four thousand protective helmets “this is an initiative that the only thing we seek is to prevent a parent or a young person from boarding a motorcycle from mourning their relatives.”
“We have the duty as an authority to contribute through education to create awareness that you and I have family waiting for us and therefore we must be prudent when moving regardless of the vehicle in which we travel,” he said.
