In the latest report of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), Building Construction Cost Index (Icoced), the impacts to June on this macroeconomic situation have been revealed, in the year to date construction of buildings rose 8.41%. In the monthly variation with respect to May, the figure was positioned 0.58%.

In the case of residential buildings, the variation was above the national average (0.59%), while the non-residential class was below the national average (0.56%).

Six of the ten destinations related to the construction of buildings were located above the national average (0.58%), that is, hotels with the highest number at 0.80%, warehouses (0.61%), apartments ( 0.60%), education (0.59%), offices (0.59%) and other destinations (0.58%). In contrast, the destinations hospitals and care centers (0.58%), houses (0.52%), public administration (0.49%) and commerce (0.46%) were below the national average.

In the percentage contribution, the largest increase in prices was recorded by hotels, with a variation of 0.80%. Within this, the cost groups that contributed the most to this variation were general construction services with 0.66 percentage points, followed by labor with 0.10 percentage points.

But not only hospitals suffered the impact of inflation, in the residential sector, NO VIS Housing, obtained the highest monthly variation (0.60%), especially due to the contribution was general construction services with 0.28 percentage points. .

Civil works

In the case of this item, although in the monthly variation it does not represent strong growth, compared to June 2021 compared to June 2022 there is a notable weight. The highest impact has been in the category of ports, canals, dams, irrigation systems and other hydraulic works (aqueducts) with an annual variation of 11.09%.. In second place are outdoor sports constructions and other civil engineering works with a 10.72% increase in elements for their operation compared to a year ago.

The list continues to increase construction materials and elements for long-distance gas pipelines, communication lines and power cables; local pipes and cables, and related works with an increase of 9.28%.

In fourth place are the constructions in mines and industrial plants with an increase in their costs of 8.83% compared to June of the previous year. Next are highways, streets, railways and runways, bridges, elevated highways and tunnels with a rise of 8.16%.

In this regard, the sector expressed its concern. For Hieldardo Rojas, the director for Colombia of China Harbor Engineering, assured that the inputs that affect the industry are steel and iron.

“In the Canal del Dique App project, these materials represent an increase of 40%-50% of the CAPEX, which translates pari-passu into a higher value of the EPC contract,” he said.
