The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor, Eddy Alcántara, guaranteed this Monday to the entire Dominican population that for Mother’s Day there will be no misleading advertising, due to the surveillance operations mounted by that entity to avoid these types of scams and deception to the detriment of consumers.

Alcántara indicated that the entity is applying the same prior verification mechanisms implemented by this management last year, which yielded excellent results, “providing a demonstration of the effectiveness of the inspection and verification operations carried out by the institution in businesses for these dates of great commercial flow”.

He went on to say that due to the successful application of those previously implemented prior verification mechanisms, the percentage of misleading advertising was practically zero, as well as for Father’s Day, Black Friday, Christmas holidays, Three Kings Day and Valentine’s Day.

The head of the consumer protection entity said that since the beginning of May, operations have been carried out with defined and established protocols, to prevent events from occurring that could swindle the rights of consumers with misleading advertising.

He pointed out that because the protocol is the same, certain aspects have been strengthened and slightly modified, which will help consumers to attend all commercial establishments in the country with full confidence, with the aim of acquiring quality products in occasion of these festivities.

Likewise, the official expressed that he trusts that the merchants will comply with what is established by Law 358-05, to place real offers and not alter the content of the intention that is had to guarantee consumers the acquisition of products without any type of affectation. to your rights

IHe reported that preventive operations on the occasion of Mother’s Day are being carried out in the main cities, including Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, La Vega, San Pedro de Macorís, among others.

He said that inspectors, advertising and price analysts, as well as promoters of good business practices, participate in them.

The official also stated that these operations perform so that business owners refrain from publishing offers that do not correspond to the goods and services they offer to consumers, “or do not comply with the characteristics and quality as established by the regulations for the protection of consumer rights.”

“In each activity of high consumption we have increased inspection and surveillance actions to prevent merchants from committing abuses against the pockets of consumers,” he declared.

Alcántara maintained that the entity’s technicians verify the prices of electrical appliances, goods and services, and other products offered, seeking to prevent the rights of consumers from being affected by misleading advertising as established by Law 358-05.

He explained that price monitoring of the most offered products is carried out on the occasion of the cmothers day celebration, that consist of verifying if the offers have their prices in sight and if the quantity announced coincides with the existing one in stock.
