Several communities in the district of Arraiján got tired of living like a weevil, dry, without water. This Friday, in demand for a better efficiency in the use of state resources, by the management of the Institute of National Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) closed the road in the Lucas Bárcenas area in Burunga.
“The water is enough if the money is not stolen,” said a community spokesperson.
In recent weeks, there have been protests due to lack of water in La Valdeza, Guadalupe, West Coast, in La Chorrera, Barriada 19 de Abril, Bosques de Valle Hermoso neighborhood, El Carrizal, Burunga, Barriada 2000, in Arraiján including in Paso Canoes and Penonomé.
These people are part of the 300,000 Panamanians who do not have constant access to drinking water. “This is not going to be solved in the short term,” said the Idaan director in a recent interview.
Recently, when residents of the Veracruz community protested the lack of water, the director of the Idaan stated that part of the problem is that some people bribe the tanker truck drivers.
Now Ducruet attributes the lack of water to two factors: the little investment of the past administrations of the Idaan and the excessive consumption of water by Panamanians who do have access to it.
