Edgar Omar Méndez, manager of the San Juan Dios Hospital, reported that they went to the Dthe Ombudsman and the Ministry of Labor to avoid further strikes at this third-level hospital. As of this Tuesday, the health workers of this hospital center abide by a 72-hour strike in demand of better conditions and supplies to work.
“We went to the Ombudsman’s Office and the Departmental Labor Directorate to stop these measures. We are redoubling our efforts to meet these needs, but the patients are the most affected (with the strike),” Méndez said.
Likewise, Méndez clarified that, little by little, the different demands demanded by the workers are being met and for this reason they are now on strike for 72 hours.
“There is a budget of Bs 7 million to buy equipment, which is expected to be carried out between May and July. We are in the process of buying them. They also ask us for an MRI, but we don’t have a budget and unfortunately this is out of our hands,” explained Dr. Méndez.
Likewise, he referred to the hospital’s maintenance claim and clarified that “improvement has been made in the storage areas, morgue, among others. After many years, the oldest hospital in the department is being refurbished, but this is not done overnight.”
As for the inputs, the doctor stated that “we are making the pertinent purchases. They are constantly being bought, but they run out. What’s more, the I invite you to see what there is, in what quantity, to verify what is in stock”.
According to the manager’s version, “the hospital manages a total of Bs 18 million for the assistance part, which is insufficient for a third level hospital. For what we sent through the Ministry of Health that the need is Bs 43 million“, affirmed Méndez, in time to point out that in recent times he has gotten out of a million-dollar debt, a debt that had been dragging on since the years in which this hospital was administered by the Mayor’s Office.
“TONow we enjoy many advances and positive things. The construction of a new warehouse and dining room is planned, it is scheduled from 2022, but it is seen as a demand for them. That will run in May“, held.
Selvi Valdez, secretary of Conflicts for hospital workers, informed EL DEBER earlier that on April 11 “We sat down and explained to the Governor’s authorities about the needs of the hospital, we lack supplies, medical equipment, human resources; however, so far we have not seen the answer.”
The leader regretted the damages caused by the strike, but said that since April the demands have been analyzed in work groups, but until now there has been no timely response.
