Opposition legislators will present a request for precautionary measures in favor of the Kim family and other victims of the encroachment on the property, located near Lomas de Arena, before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). This is due to the events recorded since October 22, when the illegal settlement was registered.
Both the Kim family and neighbors demanding their eviction and even journalists have been verbally and physically attacked.
That is why legislators from the Creemos bench will present, during the course of this Monday morning, a request for precautionary measures as a mechanism for the protection of human rights before the IACHR.
According to the explanation of the deputy María René Álvarez, these requests to the IACHR are made when there are urgent, extremely serious situations that imply irreparable risks to the life and integrity of people. “Just like it happens in the Kim properties,” he said.
“For the factual and legal grounds set forth and with the consent of the people of Santa Cruz of which we are a part, we respectfully request this international body to grant precautionary measures in favor of the proposed beneficiaries (Sun Chel Kim Rojas and family) and that their rights to life, security, physical integrity, property and the environment be ensured, in accordance with article 25 of the Regulations of the IHR Commission“, reads the document.
Likewise, it adds that “we also require that the Bolivian State immediately adopt the following measures and actions: cUrgently, proceed to evict the invaders from the Kim family property. The criminal complaint filed by the Kim family is in progress and those responsible for the encroachment and acts of violence are prosecuted and tried. Provide protection to the women in the family and offer protection measures by avoiding acts of sexual abuse against them. Offer non-repetition measures, avoiding encroachments on this, other properties and properties in the department of Santa Cruz. We have the consent of the Kim family to file this application. We reserve the right to send additional supplementary information that may support this request.”
The document is signed by María René Álvarez, representative of Creemos, Centa Rek, Senator We believe; Henry Montero, Senator from Creemos; Tatiana Áñez, representative of Creemos; Khaline Moreno, deputy for Creemos and Erwin Bazán, deputy for Creemos.
