At the beginning of the next period of sessions in the Chamber of Deputies, the Diversity Commission will present an initiative to reform various articles of our Constitution, to achieve full recognition of the right to non-discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics.
This was announced by the president of said legislative body, Jaime López Vela (Morena), who pointed out that other priority issues will be the classification at the federal level of the crime of transfemicide, and the reinforcement of all strategies against the HIV-AIDS pandemic, the which has not yet been controlled due to the lack of timely supply of medications.
In interview with The Daythe deputy stressed that after the recent approval of constitutional reforms regarding substantive equality rights for women, as well as indigenous peoples, Afro-Mexicans and the rights of digital platform workers, among others, it is necessary to give greater impetus to issues related to sexual diversity.
To do this, he said, the commission in charge will begin to discuss a reform proposal that would bring to the Mexican political Constitution the rights to free development of personality, equality and non-discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics. .
