According to the first versions, the victim, an operator identified as Marlon Andrey Cristiano Ortiz22 years old, who worked for the company Talma Colombia, was hit by a crane or service vehicle that provided support to the airline Avianca. Apparently, the young man had only been linked to the contracting company in charge of ground work for three months. Despite the quick attention of the airport’s medical services, the worker did not survive his serious injuries.
Through a statement, Avianca deeply regretted what happened and assured that it immediately activated the emergency protocols, while expressing its willingness to collaborate with the competent authorities to clarify the causes of the accident. “We are deeply saddened by what happened… and we sympathize with his family at this difficult time”indicated the airline.

For its part, the National Association of Workers in the Air Sector and Airport Services (ANTSA) denounced that the incident occurred in the midst of working conditions that had already been warned to the airport authorities. According to the union, there is high staff turnover and deficiencies in training on the safe handling of equipment on the runway, which increases risks in operations.
