A team of paleontologists arrived from Mar del Plata, and the director of the Necochea Museum Area, Águeda Caro Petersen, are in the middle of the research and evaluation stage of the specimen.
The archaeologist Caro Petersen explained that “now the pre-excavation is being made for the evaluation of a skull that would be that of a “Saber Tooth Tiger”, so we understand that it is a very important discovery for the region and even for the world because they are of those carnivorous mammals that don’t appear often”.

“We have contacted the paleontologist Matías Taglioretti, who came from the Museum of Mar del Plata, to work together from the Museum Area, and from the municipality itself through its binding areas, and thus support this type of scientific work and excavations” large.
Petersen said “these are extraordinary things in science and findings that have to do with mega mammals that are already extinct, and although in the museum we have part of the collection of these mammals, in this specific case it is something more important that can reach be news all over the world.
Meanwhile Taglioretti, a reference from the Regional Paleontological Observatory, indicated that “they found a difficult figurine such as predatory forms, and in this case it is a Smilodon Populator that would be a South American saber tooth tiger” while clarifying that ” It is the largest feline that has existed in the history of planet earth.”
