On the first day of the meeting of the Special Commission, the board of directors was formed to analyze the request for intervention of the Central Government, suspending the study of the calendar proposed by the opponents to begin the process of approval or rejection of the intervention.
Being the only point discussed in the first meeting of the Special Commission, it was determined the parliamentarians who will make up the board of directors that will analyze the Central’s request for intervention.
In this way, Ángel Paniagua, from Colorado Añetete, was selected as president, Rocío Vallejo from Patria Querida remains as vice president and deputy Cristina Villalba (ANR) is as secretary.
Thus, the study of the calendar proposed by the opposition sector was put aside to begin with the process of approval or rejection of the Central’s intervention. The recommendation of the opponents had been carried out to determine the day on which the complainants, the defendant Hugo Javier, the related institutions and the verification of public works would be received.
All this with the aim of avoiding a delay in the process and trying to carry it out as quickly as possible and thus define the intervention for this year, without being postponed to 2022.
ANGEL PANIAGUA
“Now we are going to sit down and prepare the roadmap. First, we will study the accusatory libel received, later we will summon the complainants who are the councilors and then the governor for their defense, ”explained Ángel Paniagua.
The parliamentarian denied any indication of a delay in the Commission meeting, noting that they actually seek to do a meticulous job, which is why they only treated as the sole point of the day the definition of the board of directors and not the summons of the required persons.
“The idea is to treat it this year because the public asks for transparency; we will not study anything to the hurries and we will even verify the denunciations of works not built, analyzing every detail to give peace of mind to the residents of Central ”, commented the president of the board of directors.
Likewise, the deputy said that after a meeting of the caucus they will determine from Colorado Añetete the general position they will assume regarding the request for intervention.
Paniagua had also cited that they will not request reports from the National Anticorruption Secretariat (Senac), the Comptroller’s Office or the Prosecutor’s Office, being guided only by what the complainants say.
KATTYA GONZÁLEZ
“Meeting only to determine the board of directors constitutes recourse to the charges and not providing solutions to the citizenry,” declared Kattya González, also leaving a record of her opposition so that the Commission be chaired by a Colorado, since from her point of view an opponent should have been in front.
“I do not agree that we are always the vice presidency because the incumbent has a lot to do with the establishment of the schedule to follow. We had presented a schedule to receive the complainants this Thursday, the accused on Friday, the related institutions on Monday, but they told us that it is not appropriate, “he stressed.
In turn, he commented that Deputy Basilio Núñez even said that the presentation was ridiculous, but the deputy ruled that it is not ridiculous to act proactively, fundamentally by doing the necessary work, including the “in situ” verification of the works.
“We wait for those who want to accompany the completion of the schedule because in any case we are going to comply, insisting on compliance, to demonstrate to the public that if there is political will, it can be decided,” he remarked.
He also added that there is no call for a next meeting of the Commission, telling his opposition colleagues that despite not being a majority, they should at least have the political will to demonstrate to the Paraguayan people that the request can be resolved in the scheduled time. .
González also added that the Colorado Party does not want to cite the institutions, but in any case they will seek that they appear and present their corresponding reports about the accusations made against Hugo Javier.
