MADRID, Spain.- According to the Electric Union of Cuba (UNE), the country will have an energy generation capacity of 57 percent this Thursday, which will be the highest deficit recorded in recent months.
For peak hours, an availability of 2,037 MW and a maximum demand of 3,200 MW is forecast, for a deficit of 1,163 MW, so if the expected conditions are maintained, there will be an affectation of 1,233 MW in said hours, specified the entity.
With this, it would be the second time that, in the midst of the current national energy crisis, this rate exceeds 50 percent.
During the day, an affectation of 1,100 MW is expected, adds the informative note shared on the social network Facebook.
According to the UNE, this situation is due to the fact that units 6, 7 and 8 of the Mariel Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), the Otto Parellada CTE unit, unit 3 of the Santa Cruz CTE continue to be out of service due to breakdowns. , CTE Guiteras, unit 4 of CTE Nuevitas, unit 2 of CTE Felton and unit 4 of CTE Renté. While in unit 3 of the CTE Renté maintenance work is carried out.
“All measures to restrict consumption in the state sector are implemented,” says the Electric Union.
This Wednesday there were affectations in the service due to a deficit in generation capacity during 24 hours a day. The maximum impact was 1,228 MW at 8:20 p.m., coinciding with the peak hour.
The repeated breakages of the country’s thermoelectric plants, with the consequent balance of blackouts, increasingly unsustainable for the island’s inhabitants, have led Cubans to take to the streets on different occasions, as a sign of their discontent.
