Madrid Spain.- This Thursday the lifeless body of the young Yordenis Nieves Ramos was found, who had been left under the rubble after the collapse happened this Wednesday afternoon in the former Antonio Maceo Grajales vocational school in Santiago de Cuba.
Nieves Ramos, 32, was at the scene, along with two other people, “trying to remove steel bars from the already weakened structures and in danger of collapsing,” reported Aris Arias Batalla, head of Operations and Relief in Santiago de Cuba.
Arias Batalla specified that the young man was identified by the experts, legal medicine and relatives present at the scene; just as he sent his condolences to family and friends through a statement shared on Facebook.
In previous publications, the rescuer had indicated that “an entire multidisciplinary team worked tirelessly to extract the body that was under the concrete slabs.”
To find the body, “specialized forces from the Ministry of Construction (MICONS), Salvage and Rescue of the Fire Department, the Cuban Red Cross, paramedics, Canine Technique and government authorities of the territory and Civil Defense” went to the scene.
“The operations and biosafety system have been carried out, as well as the action protocols in these accidents in the event of collapsed structures. Canine techniques were used to identify the sector. Heavy specialized equipment such as backhoes were used for moving heavy slabs and felling trees to access the area”, he later specified.
Due to the incident, another person was injured and was transferred to the Juan Bruno Zayas Surgical Clinical Hospital, where he is out of danger.
According to the information, the collapse was caused by the total collapse of the four-level structures of the building.
According to Aris Arias Batalla, the government has a permanent EPROMAC demolition squad in place and has security and protection agents from PROSEG, “but many individuals do not abide by and respect the presence of these agents and there, unfortunately, these misfortunes happen with irreparable psychological damage.
