On October 25, a new case of violence against women was registered in Nicaragua. María Cristina Meza Flores, 28, was found dead in her house and with multiple signs of violence on her body. The incident was reported in the municipality of Siuna.
According to local media, the corpse presents bruises on the face and head. The National Police located a piece of wood in the house, with blood stains, which the aggressor allegedly used.
The crime occurred in the community of San Pablo de Iyas, located about 60 kilometers from the municipality of Siuna, in the North Caribbean of Nicaragua.

As a suspect, police officers arrested Alcides Castellón, a farm worker near the place where the victim was found.
According to investigations, the man harassed the woman every time he met her.
Until September 2022, the Catholic organization for the Right to Decide registered 47 femicides in Nicaragua and 120 frustrated femicides in this same period. They warn that women continue to be unprotected from their aggressors.
For his part, the director general of the Nicaraguan Police, the sanctioned commissioner Francisco Diaz Madriz, assured that the rate of femicides in Nicaragua has decreased, although the figures compiled by the feminist organization indicate that male violence has increased at the national level, as well as femicides in a degree of frustration.
Martha Flores, director of the feminist organization, explained to Article 66 that last year Daniel Ortega’s Police only reported 15 femicides, this is due, according to the human rights defender, to the fact that the regime “classifies femicides according to Law 779 with the presidential decree where femicides are carried out only by the partner or ex-partner.
“Instead, our observatory is based on the original law,” he said.
