wave of femicides
In the first five months of 2023, the Voces Observatory, from the feminist organization Catholics for the Right to Decide (CDD), has registered that at least 40 women have been victims of sexist violence.
Given the increase in femicides in the country, a lawyer and feminist calls on the regime for the closure of organizations that promote women’s rights in Nicaragua, who dedicated efforts to accompany victims of violence to file a complaint and achieve justice before their attackers.
“If before there were three organizations that assisted women in the territories to file a complaint or psychological accompaniment, now there is absolutely nothing. The community fabric does not exist. The women defenders have had to go into exile due to the fierce persecution against civil organizations in the country,” lamented the specialist.
In addition, feminist organizations have denounced that there is not a week in which an act of sexist violence is not registered, which has often ended in fatalities.
