According to the Judicial Police report, at 1 pm on Saturday, officials from the Costa Rican Red Cross entered and declared José Luis Barrera and Marta Poveda, who had stab wounds to the neck, dead.
“The entry is made in the company of colleagues from the Border Police and the situation is confirmed. Access was quite complicated due to the hours and the road”, explained Francisco Irigoyen, district chief of Pocosol.
The victims were found with their throats cut about 30 meters from the house where they lived. “They have stab wounds to the neck. The judicial agents of Los Chiles appeared at the place and carried out the removal of the bodies, “reported the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).
According to the evidence found at the crime scene, it is presumed that the victims were gagged and although the motive for the crime is unknown so far, the first hypothesis that the Costa Rican authorities handled was that it was a robbery, since in The house had broken and thrown objects.
It took the Costa Rican authorities about two hours to extract the bodies of the victims from the mountain due to the difficult access to the terrain and the darkness of the area. The bodies of José Luis Barrera Useda and Marta Poveda Suárez were taken to the morgue for an autopsy and to determine the true causes of death of the Nicaraguans.
The case is still under investigation by the OIJ of San Carlos to determine the reason for the event and find the murderers.
