They find a newborn baby in the Cienfuegos canal

A newborn baby was found lifeless this Sunday morning in the Cienfuegos channelin the Villa Progreso sector, after community members saw a backpack being dragged by the current.

As reported residents of the areathe backpack descended through the canal and caught the attention of several neighbors.

When they took it out, they discovered that inside was a baby that was only days old, still with the umbilical cord.

The community members indicated that the child had very weak vital signs, so they tried to provide him with first aid while a unit of the National Emergency System 9-1-1. However, the infant died at the scene.

One of the residents, identified as Jenniferexplained that they observed the descend backpack with the current before decide to withdraw it of the water.

“When they took her out, it was a baby there. That has no days because it even has umbilical cord“he narrated.

He added that the neighbors tried to assist the child, but he died few minutes after. “Unfortunate. I am a mother and I don’t want it to happen to any baby,” she said.
