A total of 386 migrants from 13 countries were found in an operation in the Mexican state of Puebla, in the center of the country, including 75 women, who were to be transferred to the northern border by a criminal group dedicated to human trafficking, reported this Wednesday the General Prosecutor of the Republic.
In a statement, the FGR indicated that through the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime, and with the support of agents from the Federal Ministerial Police, the Criminal Investigation Agency, and the Secretary of the Navy, on Tuesday it carried out a search warrant in the state of Puebla, where he managed to find 386 migrants, as well as the arrest of six people.
He said that the review issued by the judicial authority occurred in two properties located in the community of San Antonio Tlacamilco, La Magdalena Tetela Morelos, in the state of Puebla.
The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that 386 migrants with an irregular migratory situation were found in the first building, of that total number 311 were men and 75 women.
The migrants are originally from El Salvador, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, India, Venezuela, Cuba, Honduras, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Bangladesh.
While in the same action he apprehended Juan «M», José «M», Andrés «R» and Raúl «C» and also secured the property with warehouse functions, a trailer, two vehicles and two motorcycles.
In the second property, the FGR indicated that it detained Yanett “H” and Karely “R” and also secured the property, two vehicles, two handguns, a shotgun, documents, cash, 10 telephones, two laptops, five tablets, and various USB sticks.
The FGR pointed out that agents from the National Institute of Migration intervened “for the custody and shelter of the migrants.”
He said that derived from several procedures carried out in June and July 2021 in Puebla and in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, coordinated by the Public Ministry of the Federation (MPF), “it was possible to identify a criminal group dedicated to human trafficking. ».
He pointed out that said group operates in the states of Chiapas, Veracruz, Puebla and Nuevo León, “who intended to transport more than 300 migrants in a trailer,” presumably bound for the northern border of Mexico.
Last Monday, the INM reported that a total of 5,688 migrants from some 40 countries were located between April 21 and 14 in various actions.
While this Wednesday, the Mexican authorities dissolved the fourth caravan of migrants that has been formed so far this year in the Mexican municipality of Tapachula, bordering Guatemala.
Mexico deported more than 114,000 foreigners in 2021, according to data from the Migration Policy Unit of the country’s Ministry of the Interior.
In addition, the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar) received a record 131,448 refugee applications in 2021. Of these petitioners, more than 51,000 are Haitians.
Mexico’s INM recently reported that between January 1 and April 13 of this year it intercepted 115,379 migrants, of which 15% were minors, mainly from Central American nations.
