Guillermo Ferreiro, Mario Ferreiro’s lawyer and nephew, accompanied by leaders from various sectors, filed a formal complaint against prosecutor Stella Mary Cano before the Magistrates’ Trial Jury on Monday morning.
The accusation indicates that Cano received instructions from politicians to carry out an accusation against the then mayor of Asunción Mario Ferreiro. He also adds that he has received protection from the Colorado Party ever since.
The context is as follows: a journalistic investigation revealed that Camilo Soares, a former political ally of Ferreiro, set up a case against him due to a debt that Ferreiro had with him. Due to this situation, he requested help from Colorado political actors such as Dani Centurión, Basilio “Bachi” Núñez and Arnaldo Samaniego.
Finally, Mario Ferreiro was forced to resign at the end of December 2019, after revealing an alleged parallel collection in the commune for the granting of contracts directed to suppliers.
