They fight to fight a plant mass fire in Tierras Altas

Since yesterday, several institutions have been working together to put out a Plant Mass Fire (IMAVE) in Cerro Punta, a corregimiento of the same name, district of Tierras Alta

The Ministry of the Environment (MiAMBIENTE) reported that it is permanently monitored by security forces and the Joint Task Force.

This geographical formation is outside the limits of the La Amistad International Park (PILA); however, MiAMBIENTE has made the technicians available to collaborate in the IMAVE control and liquidation work, which occurs for the first time at this point.

This Thursday the National Aeronaval Service attacked the IMAVE by air, however the fire has not been controlled.

The community is requested, please, to know who or who are responsible for this environmental crime, file complaints or inform the authorities.

To date, and thanks to institutional patrols, it has been possible to prosecute a subject who caused an IMAVE within the PNVB and consumed hundreds of hectares in 2020.

In the 131 days that have elapsed, this year, in Chiriquí only one IMAVE has been reported within protected areas; The case occurred in the sector known as Los Llanos – Tierras Altas district – in the Volcán Barú National Park (PNVB).

MiAMBIENTE, in these months, maintains monitoring and patrolling in 43 points vulnerable to IMAVE within and close to PILA, PNVB, La Barqueta Agrícola Beach Wildlife Refuge and Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park.
