They fear for the health of political prisoners, they have not seen them for almost 50 days

The relatives of the 27 political prisoners who are held captive in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Chipote”, are alarmed by the lack of information about their relatives who are imprisoned in that prison of the Daniel Ortega dictatorship and Rosario Murillo, after almost 50 days without being able to visit them.

They stated that their relatives are experiencing an “emergency” situation due to the conditions of confinement, solitary confinement and the hunger strike that four of the hostages of conscience are holding.

“The current situation that our relatives who are in “El Chipote” are experiencing is highly emergency. As family members we are extremely concerned, not only because we have not heard from them for almost 50 days, but also because there are four people who are currently on a hunger strike: Dora María Téllez, Miguel Mendoza, Róger Reyes and Irving Larios. This aggravates their situation even more », he told Article 66 a relative of a political prisoner who omitted his name for fear of reprisals.

“It is urgent that the regime allows us as relatives to verify the physical and emotional conditions in which our relatives find themselves. We cannot continue this way, with so much uncertainty at the expense that we can see them when they decide. We need to schedule the visits », he added.

The last visit that the political prisoners locked up in “El Chipote” was at the end of August and after denouncing the reduction in food, the regime exhibited them before the propaganda media. That was the only time they have been able to see them in more than a month and a half. «(the visit)… it is a right that we have to be able to watch over and guarantee that their life situation is kept in good condition. We are in an alarming situation because we had not spent so much time since the last visit we had with them in August », he claimed.

César Dubois, husband of political prisoner Suyen Barahona, told Article 66, that in these weeks, since the visit at the end of August, they do not know at all about them and that the greatest concern is also for the health and physical condition of the four hostages of conscience who are on a hunger strike demanding to see their children and for the incommunicado regime to end.

“We are very concerned about their health. We really don’t know anything about our relatives, we in the press releases relatives of political prisoners We have insisted on the need to have a schedule of scheduled visits as governed by Nicaraguan law and by the international agreements that the State has signed, but that has not yet been possible. With a totally closed system we have no information, unfortunately,” Dubois said.

In the Penitentiary System, the visiting regulations are every 21 days where they have the right to be visited by their relatives and children, but this is not the case that happens in “El Chipote”. The incommunicado and torture regime persists against their relatives and hostages of conscience.
