They enable fifth adolescent space “Ñangareko” in the San Pablo hospital

Hoy Paraguay

The new adolescent space was enabled yesterday at the San Pablo Hospital in Asunción. The Ñangareko Spaces strategy is reflected in a gradual positive impact.

In line with national efforts, it collaborated with the reduction to 13,500 adolescent pregnancies in the year 2021 and 12,574 patients have been treated between 2019 and 2021 in the four Ñangareko adolescent spaces installed, of which 62% were for planning and gynecological care.

Dr. Félix Brizuela, medical director of the San Pablo hospital, expressed that the expectation is to receive 40 adolescents per day in both shifts. Attention hours will be from Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 17:00 hours and in order of arrival at first.

According to Dr. Brizuela, the team that will work in the adolescent area will preferably be led by pediatricians, clinicians, and gynecologists.

“The idea is to offer services to adolescent women who attend services with a problem that has become a reality, with an unwanted pregnancy. Almost 100% of adolescents who become pregnant are unwanted pregnancies, that is where they want to aim with the new space, prevention, good training, guidance and provision of contraceptive methods, ”she indicated.

For his part, the general director of the hospital, Dr. Vicente Acuña, pointed out that the San Pablo hospital at some point had 25% of births in children under 19 years of age.

“This space will help us spread, educate and, above all, avoid situations that we know are unpleasant and create an unfavorable social situation for the person who experiences it,” Acuña said during the installation.

The Juan Rassmuss Echecopar Foundation (FJRE), in close collaboration with the San Pablo hospital and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPYBS), made it possible to set up this differentiated care space for adolescents between 10 and 19 years of age.

The Ñangareko Teenager Space has a bright and pleasant atmosphere, high-quality furniture, television where informative videos regarding adolescent health care will be broadcast, as well as Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

The Juan Rassmuss Foundation has been working in the country for 5 years with a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Public Health, in two strategic axes; prevention and early detection of preeclampsia and Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents through the Ñangareko Spaces.
