Punta Cana.- The mayor of Samaná, Nelson Núñez, was elected president of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu), during the XXIII General Election Assembly of Municipalities 2024, in which the board of directors of the Board of Directors was also elected for the period 2024-2026, which will have technician Félix Santos as executive director.
The new president of Fedomu reiterated that together with President Luis Abinader They will continue to support municipalities as a way to improve people’s quality of life, and provide better equipment to the country’s city councils.

He thanked all the mayors present for trusting him and placing their trust in the address of an institution whose goal is to defend the political, administrative and financial autonomy of city councils.
Ignacio Ditrén, president of the electoral commission and person in charge of municipal affairs of the Power of the People; Laura Reyes, executive director of Fedomu and secretary of the commission, as well as Ramón Santos, in charge of municipal affairs of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), announced the election of Núñez, who was unanimously elected by 149 mayors who attended the grand municipal meeting.
They will accompany President Núñez to direct the destinies of the Federation for two years, Santos Ramírez, mayor of Baní, as general secretary, while José Miguel Méndez, mayor of Villa Altagracia, as treasurer.
Likewise, Kelvin Cruz, from La Vega, Rafael Hidalgo, from Azua, and Anyolino Germosén, from drumwill be the recent past presidents.
About Nelson Núñez
He was born on April 21, 1966 in the Los Algarobos area, Honduras section, in the Samaná municipality, Dominican Republic. He completed his primary studies at the Eliseo Demorizi School and his secondary studies at the José Gabriel García High School in Samaná.
He has a degree in Law, graduated from the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), with a master’s degree in Administrative Law and Municipal Management, with a degree from the Castilla La Mancha University, in Spain.
Additionally, on the academic side, he completed a postgraduate degree in labor law and social security in the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher, as well as multiple studies related to civil procedural law, government management and strategies, political science and party politics, state administration, among others.
As a public official, he served as president of the Municipal Electoral Board of Samaná in 1996, until he was named Civil Status Officer of the municipality. Samana in 1997 until 2001.
He was elected deputy for the Samaná province in the electoral period 2002-2006.
And he is currently the mayor of the Samaná municipality in his third term, 2016-2020; 2020-2024 and 2024-2028.
