Engineer Guillermo Zárraga, who has spent 30 months as a political prisoner under the administration of Nicolás Maduro, suffers from serious health problems and the authorities refuse to authorize his transfer to a medical care center.
The complaint was made by Diego Zárraga, son of Guillermo Zárraga, who also pointed to Mirelys Contreras, former Minister of the Penitentiary Service, as responsible for what could happen to his father in the next few hours.
«The life of my father, the engineer Guillermo Zárraga, is in danger. His health has deteriorated greatly. He has not been transferred. I hold Mirelys Contreras responsible for what may happen to my father in the next few hours,” he denounced in Twitter.
In the same way, he mentioned the current Minister of the Penitentiary Service, Celsa Bautista, as responsible for his father’s life while the Ministry refuses to transfer him to receive timely medical attention.
«Celsa Bautista, in your hands is the responsibility of my father’s life. The ministry has not wanted to transfer him to the hospital, even knowing his delicate state of health,” he said.
Diego Zárraga explained that his father has lost more than 20 kilograms of weight during his imprisonment, since he entered weighing 98 kg and now reaches 73 kg. In addition, in mid-March he warned that he suffered a heart attack that caused further injuries due to a fall to the ground.

Guillermo Zárraga was the secretary of claims of the Single Union of Oil and Gas Workers of Falcón state when, in November 2020, he was arrested by officials of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) to later receive a custodial measure.
Zárraga was arrested shortly after appearing in a photo with the former president of the National Assembly elected in 2015 and former interim president, Juan Guaidó, because he participated in a meeting in which the opposition leader summoned various actors from the oil sector. .

At the presentation hearing, he was accused of participating in the case called “El Espía Gringo”, an alleged plot with Guaidó and a US agent to exploit oil infrastructure, a narrative used by the Government to explain an implosion that occurred in one of the Amuay refinery towers.
Since his imprisonment, his relatives denounce that since his imprisonment, he has been denied his right to a defense and that he has been transferred to the courts so that he admits, under threat, the facts that are accused of him.
