“They don’t deserve to be behind bars”: Relatives hold vigil for detainees after 28J

Relatives have resorted to the power of prayer to ask for the release of the detainees, accused in many cases of terrorism, treason and incitement to hatred, according to A Window to Freedom.

They don’t lose faith. The relatives of those detained after the presidential elections of July 28 in the Yare III prison, in Valles del Tuy, Miranda state, join in a vigil to ask for the freedom of their loved ones.

Relatives have resorted to the power of prayer to ask for the release of the detainees, accused in many cases of terrorism, treason and incitement to hatred, according to A Window to Freedom.

The NGO explained on their website that relatives gather at the entrance to the town of San Francisco de Yare and in the spaces where they spend the night, in the Valles del Tuy, to raise their requests.

“Our relatives do not deserve to be behind bars, because they are innocent. What they are doing to them is evil,” said the mother of a 22-year-old young man quoted by the organization.

He is one of the young people put on trial. according to the mother, by the judge of the Second Control Court with jurisdiction in Terrorism, Keidimar Ramos Castillo, who ratified the custodial measure, accepting the charges brought by the Public Ministry.

They have not committed crimes

“You have to imagine what it means to be locked up for 95 days, not knowing what will happen to their lives and, the saddest thing, without having committed any crime. Their lives changed in seconds, without imagining it,” he added.

The woman, who said that several prisoners have symptoms of anxiety and depression, asked judges and prosecutors to make justice prevail.

More than 2,400 people were arrested as part of the protests against the electoral victory of President Nicolás Maduro, the result of which was announced without detailed data being published.

The opposition, which insists on the victory of its standard bearer Edmundo González Urrutia, and part of the international community are unaware of the results.
