They dismantle a group of scammers that operated through calls and social networks

A network of fraudsters was dismantled this morning, Wednesday, July 12, in Operation Ocean’s 5, carried out by the National Police through the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) and the Public Ministry in the provinces of Colón, Panama. , West Panama, Coclé and Chiriquí.

Eleven were apprehended in this important police operation that seeks to get criminal groups dedicated to scams out of circulation and that have left victims with great economic injuries.

Among those apprehended are seven women and four men of Panamanian nationality, who have been linked to investigations for the commission of crimes against Economic Heritage in the form of Fraud, events reported in the province of Colón.

According to the investigations carried out by the Second Section of Crimes Against Economic Heritage of the Colón Prosecutor’s Office, these people are related to scams through telephone calls and social networks, where they offer house, car and travel prizes; vacation packages, sale of high-end technological equipment, sale of taxi seats and even pose as Customs officials and shipping companies to charge for supposed packages from abroad.

In the proceedings and searches of the suspects’ residences, cell phones, laptops, various documents and other evidence that will be provided within the investigations carried out by the judicial authorities were seized.

The apprehended will be transferred to the province of Colón, to continue with the process corresponding to the orders of the Public Ministry
