Dutch archaeologists have unearthed a well-preserved 2,000-year-old Roman temple in the eastern Netherlands, the Dutch National Agency for Cultural Heritage announced on Monday.
“Never before have a temple, altars and sacrificial remains been found in such good condition.”highlighted the agency, according to the ANSA agency.
The temple is located near Nijmegen, on the border with Germanywhere the Limes once lay, the northern border of the Roman Empire, which was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
Archaeologists discovered artifacts from the site last year in the town of Herwen-Hemeling and reported it to authorities.
Further investigation led to the discovery of the site near a hill.
