They develop an operation for the prevention and control of bovine brucellosis

The General Directorate of Livestock (DIGEGA) develops a broad operation at the national level for the prevention and control of brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis. As well as Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) and avian diseases.

Between January and May of this year, the DIGEGA has applied 45,849 vaccines against bovine brucellosis. During the month of May 2022 alone, in the bovine brucellosis prevention and control program, 8,092 doses of vaccines were applied, 6,892 with strain 19 and 1,200 with the RB-51 vaccine, benefiting a total of 742 farms.

The DIGEGA, directed by Dr. Geovanny Molina, has a goal of vaccinating calves against bovine brucellosis by 2022 to apply 120,000 vaccines, with an average of 10,000 per month. During the month of May 2022, 26.54% of the goals programmed for the year have been met.

“We are working in favor of producers at the national level and to guarantee the food security of the Dominican Republic. We are working throughout the country for the prevention and control of brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis. The change is felt throughout the country,” Molina said.

The official assured that the entire Livestock team will continue working to successfully exceed the goals set for this year 2022.

“The DIGEGA has a team of professionals capable of meeting the objectives set and to support producers at the national level,” he said.

The DIGEGA data also indicates that the bovine brucellosis diagnosis goal for 2022 is 212,089 and only during the month of May, 40.00% of the goals programmed for the year 2022 have been met.

Regarding bovine tuberculosis, the DIGEGA indicates that in the month of May, 28,170 tuberculin tests were applied throughout the country.

In addition, 27,866 caudal skinfold tests and 242 cervical skinfold tests were reported. In this process, 476 farms were worked.

The bovine tuberculosis diagnosis goal for 2022 is 336,000. During the month of May 2022, 39.75% of the goals programmed for the year have been met.

Likewise, the goal of farms worked for the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis for 2022 is 9,521 and already during the month of May 2022 that objective has been met.

The General Directorate of Livestock has also been efficiently developing the Bovine Traceability Program, through which it is reported that 10,662 tags were applied and 101 producers and 101 establishments were registered in the traceability system.
