An electronic alert monitoring device for victims of gender violence, when the potential aggressor violates the minimum perimeter distance assigned in each case, is developed by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Research for Defense (Citedef) under the name “Mariana”.
That scientific body of the Ministry of Defense reported this Friday through its website that “Mariana” proposes to implement an early warning system to notify potential victims of femicide.
The team has proven experience and background in the design and development of electronic systems with embedded firmware; but in this particular case, it seeks to satisfy the need to address new technologies that allow the detection of the event. “Violation of the Minimum Perimeter Distance”using point-to-point communication criteria for the development of adequate electronic instrumentation, seeking independence from standard monitoring channels.
The “Mariana device” has two modules that communicate with each other, one associated with the potential victim and the other with the potential aggressor.

In this point-to-point communication, the aggressor module reports its georeferenced position to the victim module and the latter, through its programming, creates a data frame that is sent via Bluetooth to a personal computer.
This computer receives and processes this data calculating the distance in a straight line between the Victim module and the Aggressor module.
In the event that the established perimeter distance is violated, an audible and visual alarm event will be generated that will alert the potential victim that the aggressor is in the vicinity of their person.
The Institute made the presentation of the “Mariana Device” before the Secretary of Research, Industrial Policy and Production for Defense, Daniela Castro, and representatives of the Gender Office of the National University of Defense and the agency itself.
